Clubhouse App Updates for November 2021

Hello All,

Please find the latest clubhouse updates for November, as well as some earlier clubhouse updates, just in case you missed some from earlier months.

iOS Release Notes👋🏽 Thank you so much for being part of the Clubhouse community! Below is a list of what we shipped in each recent releaseMon, 11/8👋 Heads up! We recently updated our ToS, Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines to explain how some of our new features (like Replays) work! By continuing to use Clubhouse, you are acknowledging the new policies and agreeing to abide by them. Thank you! Hi all – Happy Monday! We have a huge release for you today. Here is what’s new!

Replays! A Clubhouse room is much more than a live podcast. It’s a shared space where people gather and community happens. Creators take questions from the room. They share links to the things that the group is discussing. New people discover the room from the hallway and join midway through. Friends talk for hours about all sorts of topics, and the final room looks nothing like it did when it started. When we set out to build Replays, we wanted to create something that captures the magic and energy of a live Clubhouse room, in ways that non-interactive audio streams alone cannot. Today, we’re starting to roll out Replays on both iOS and Android. Think of it as live, but later — and available to everyone.

Replays are an optional feature that creators can choose to toggle on or off for any public room. When Replays are enabled, anyone on Clubhouse can replay the entire experience whenever they like. They’ll get to see the same elements of a live room like Leave Quietly, and watch the dynamic of the stage and audience shift and evolve throughout the discussion, including PTRs, mic taps, and all the special moments that only happen here. Here are some of the special features you’ll find: Pin links to any segment A few weeks ago we launched Pinned Links, which let room mods pin a link to the top of the room, and update them whenever they like to reflect the changing conversation. This lets them play games, shout out their sponsors, link to polls and surveys, share products, host fundraisers, sell tickets to a real-life event, and gain subscribers for their podcasts or newsletters. With Replays, Pinned Links remain fully interactive, so they update throughout the course of the room, allowing creators to share relevant content and realize value long after the room has ended. Skip to the next speaker In other apps you can skip forward 30 seconds if you’d like to speed things up. This is great, but Clubhouse is about people, and sometimes it’s nice to have more control. With Replays, you can skip to the next speaker. This lets you tap through to your favorite people and focus the room on the parts that matter most to you. You can also pause, play, scrub, clip and listen at 1.5x or 2x. See who’s joining With podcasts, it’s hard to know your audience. With Clubhouse, the live experience is defined by the people in the room. There is something special about seeing the friends around you and caring about who is listening. With Replays it’s no different. As a creator, you can see the people in the room, share that experience with them, and connect with them — even if they listened after the fact. If you ever want to hide yourself from the audience, you can do that by tapping the “…”. Download the source fileRoom creators will have the ability to download the audio so they can edit it and use it wherever they want — as a podcast, a clip on YouTube, an Instagram story, a TikTok video, an embed in their article or newsletter, or anywhere else. The replay will also be discoverable within Clubhouse — from club pages, speakers’ profiles (unless they choose to hide it), search (starting next week), and more. Total Attendee CountA final thing that we’re excited about with Replays is the rollout of Total Attendee Count. You know what’s almost as much fun as saying you had 20 or 200 or 2,000 people in a room at the same time? Being able to share that 20,000 people joined your room over the course of the day! Beginning today, room creators will be able to see (and share) cumulative counts of all the people who came through a room. It’s the first of many new analytics features that we’ll be adding for room creators in the months ahead. Replays will start going live today on iOS and Android. In the meantime, you may already see a few Replays out in the wild. A special thanks to all the amazing Clubhouse creators who helped us test the feature! That’s it for now! As always, thank you for being part of Clubhouse! 🙏🏽iOS – Tues, 11/2Hi all — Happy Tuesday! 👋 Say नमस्ते, Bonjour, こんにちは, Olá, and HELLO…  to our new icon, Anirudh Deshmukh! As the new month begins, it’s time for us to say a huge thank you to the current face of the Clubhouse community — Mandiie Martinez. And we are excited to welcome Anirudh Deshmukh from Mumbai, India as our newest app icon for November! Anirudh is an architect turned singer, songwriter, composer, and more, and hosts an incredibly popular nightly show from his club “Anirudh”. Welcome Anirudh! That’s it for now. As always, thank you for being part of Clubhouse! 🙏🏽

Wed, Oct 27

Hi all — Happy Wednesday!

Today we have a little big feature that we are so excited to share with you…📌🔗

Introducing Pinned Links! Pinned Links allow you to pin a link to the top of your room. If you’re the room moderator, just tap the “…” menu in the upper right, then tap “Pin a Link.” Any moderator can change or remove the link anytime.

We suspect that people will use Pinned Links in all sorts of fun ways — like playing games, running polls, and sharing links to YouTube videos. Just as importantly, we’re excited to see Pinned Links help room creators drive people to subscribe to their Substack, download their podcast, read their book, go see them at The Laugh Factory, discover their new single, buy their product, or support their Patreon or GoFundMe page.

You can learn more on our Pinned Links blog post, or just start a room and try it out! We can’t wait to see how you use it.That’s it for now. As always, thank you for being part of Clubhouse! 🙏🏽

Wed, Oct 6👋 Say Hello to our new icon: Mandiie Martinez! As the new month begins, it’s time for us to say a huge thank you to the current face of the Clubhouse community — comedian, philanthropist, and elevator of aspiring creators, Leah Lamarr.

Assuming the mantle (starting to get Batman vibes) is multi-hyphenated creator and club organizer-extraordinaire, Mandiie Martinez, who will be the face of Clubhouse for October! Welcome Mandiie! You can more about our new icon on the Clubhouse blog.🔗

Introducing Clubhouse Links! Many people have told us they prefer private Clubhouse rooms to phone calls or video chat. There’s something nice about seeing people’s photos and knowing who’s talking, without feeling any pressure to turn on your camera. It would be great if you could just grab a private Clubhouse room link and drop it in a calendar invite, like you can with most video chat services. Now you can! To grab a Clubhouse Link, just tap “+ Room” in the hallway, then tap “Share a room link.” A unique link will get copied to your clipboard so you can text it to a group, drop it in a calendar invite, or add it to an event listing anywhere.

The room will be private — open just to the people who have the link — and you’ll get notified when people join. We hope this feature will make it easier for you to have 1:1s, for moderators to catch up privately before a big conversation, for creators and community organizers to host private events, or for friends to reconnect on a regular basis — for monthly drinks, birthday parties, or virtual watch parties for their favorite games and shows. Clubhouse Links is rolling out in beta on iOS today, and we’re excited to see how people use it.

Please test it out and send us any bug reports! That’s it for now. As always, thank you for being part of Clubhouse!

🙏🏽Thu, Sep 30👋 Heads up! We updated our ToS, Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines on Sep 30th to explain how some of our new features (like Clips) work! By continuing to use Clubhouse, you are acknowledging the new policies and agreeing to abide by them. Thank you!

Hi all — Happy Thursday! This week is another big week of shipping, and we have a few features we’re extremely excited to share with you…✂️ Introducing Clips — share the best moments on Clubhouse!

Clips — rolling out today in beta — will allow anyone to share 30-second clips of public rooms on Clubhouse, so more people on the Internet can discover and join your club, and so you can share amazing moments with people far and wide! Here’s how it will work: When you start a room, you can choose whether you want Clips enabled. They’ll be on by default for open/public rooms and events, and you can toggle them off anytime. They are not currently available for private, social or member-only club rooms. If you’ve enabled Clips, people will see a new icon (✄), which they can tap anytime to grab a Clip of the past 30 seconds. This lets them share a preview of your room with others, or capture an incredible moment that just happened. People can share Clips of your show to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, iMessage, or WhatsApp — and even save them to their camera rolls for quick editing first. We’re beginning to roll out Clips in beta to a small group of creators starting today, so that more of the world can see — and join in — the incredible, human moments being created here each day.

🔎 Universal Search — find the best live rooms and upcoming events! It’s crazy that you can’t search for rooms or events on Clubhouse… Well now you can, because today we’re shipping Universal Search! This will allow you to search for people, clubs, live rooms and future events — so you can find your friends more quickly, discover amazing clubs and events related to any breaking news or obscure interest, and find rooms about specific things happening in the world right now.

Universal Search is rolling out on iOS and Android starting today. For the first week or two it will stay in the Explore tab while we get feedback from the community and continually improve search results. Then we’ll move it to the hallway. :)We are also thrilled to announce that Replays will be coming to Clubhouse in the coming weeks! Replays are an entirely new way for people to experience your rooms. Live… but later. 🙂 Just like with Clips, you’ll be able to choose whether you want Replays enabled when you start a room. If they’re on, your room will be discoverable on Clubhouse for as long as you like — and available for you to download and share anywhere. Replays make it trivially easy to create great audio content, get discovered by others, and grow your audience over time. There are a lot of details we want to get right here, so we are going to be testing and continuing to develop this feature in the wild for a few more weeks, and plan to roll out access to creators and community members later in the coming weeks. That’s it for now. As always, thank you for being part of Clubhouse!

🙏🏽 Thu, Sep 23 Hi all — Happy Thursday! Today we’re incredibly excited to share something new…👋 Introducing Wave — an easier way to start conversations with friends on Clubhouse! There are a lot of big rooms on Clubhouse, but in life, it’s often the smaller, more private moments with friends old and new that put smiles on our faces: birthdays, long-overdue catch-ups, watching a movie long-distance, making plans for the weekend, or just hanging out on a Thursday night. To help you create more of these small, special moments, we’re introducing a new feature that we call Wave. Here’s how it works: When you see your friends roaming the hallways in Clubhouse and want to start a casual conversation, all you have to do is wave at them — by tapping the 👋 Wave button next to their name in the sidebar (that space to the left of the hallway) or on their profile. They’ll get a notification that you said hello, and will know that you’re open to chatting. If they are too, they can join a private room with you — open just to the people you waved at. You can keep it to one social circle, introduce friends from different groups to each other, or open the room up more broadly.

The best part is you can wave at as many friends as you like, and you can do other things while you’re waiting for them to respond. Explore the hallways, find more friends to wave at, or jump into some rooms! The tiny wave bar will come along with you, in case you decide you can’t talk anymore and need to cancel your waves. And if you background the app, we’ll pause your waves so you don’t get pulled into a room without realizing it.We hope this makes it easier to meet friends of friends and to have more fun, meaningful, small conversations each day. You can read more about Waves at blog.clubhouse.com, or better yet, give it a try! That’s it for now. As always, thank you for being part of Clubhouse!

🙏🏽Wed, Sep 15 Hi all — Just a quick release today, focused on tools for club creators! Here’s what’s new:✳️ Better tools to manage your clubs!Club Admins can now delete club events that were scheduled by other Members. Just open the event from the club page, tap the three dots, and delete the event. Easy!Club Members will no longer get notifications about every Member-created event. To cut down on unwanted notification, we’ll only send notifications to people who follow the event creator. Events created by a club Admin or Leader will be unaffected.Club creators can delete their old clubs, right from the app. Just got to the settings menu on your club page!Oh, and we renamed room “topics” to “titles” — to avoid confusion with the other kind of topics in Clubhouse (e.g., Physics, Traveling, Fashion, etc.). Hopefully that makes things clearer. :)That’s all for now. As always, thank you for being part of Clubhouse!

🙏🏽Sun, Aug 29 Hi all — Happy Sunday! We hope you’re having a great weekend. Here’s what’s new in this week’s release:🔊 Spaaaaatial audio! We always say conversations on Clubhouse are like being at a great dinner or cocktail party — where you hear amazing people all around you, with new people dropping in and out and and interesting ideas coming from all sides. Today we’re excited to announce that we’ve enhanced Clubhouse with a new technology called spatial audio, which helps bring incredible rooms to life even more. With spatial audio, you’ll hear the people around you in 3D, which makes the experience a bit more lifelike and human and makes it easier for your brain to track who is taking, thanks to subtle spatial cues. Spatial audio works best with headphones (wired or otherwise) and will start slowly rolling out as the default experience for all new iOS users starting today, with Android coming soon. If you prefer the old listening experience, you can turn spatial audio off anytime in your settings. 🎉 Easier ways to follow people back. We’re doing a lot of work over the coming weeks to help new users have a great first experience on Clubhouse. As part of that, we’re added a new one-tap “Follow back” activity feed item so you can easily follow back your real-life friends when they join Clubhouse and follow you.

📸 New app icon! Please join us in thanking the one and only Meezy for making our home screens so great in August, and in welcoming the amazing Leah Lamarr (of Hot on the Mic fame) for September! Leah will be gracing your phone screen for the next month. She came on Clubhouse to get over a COVID breakup, started a comedy show, and now she‘s touring all over the US. It’s like a Cinderella story if Cinderella was single and made a lot of inappropriate jokes. That’s all for now. As always, thank you for being part of Clubhouse!

🙏🏽Tues, Aug 17 Hi all — Happy Tuesday! Here’s what’s new in this week’s release: ♣️ We’re making some one-time changes to clubs — to simplify how they work and make them easier for you to manage. We’ve been talking about this for a while at Town Hall and on our blog, so hopefully you know the details, but if not, here is a reminder! We’re simplifying things by eliminating club “Followers,” so there is a single relationship you can have to a club: “Membership.”If you’re the Admin of a club, you can choose to make your membership “Open” (meaning anyone can join as a Member) or “By Approval” (meaning you individually approve all Members). We’re creating a new role called “Leaders” to help club Admins make their clubs successful. Leaders can start rooms and schedule events that all club members can see, but can’t edit club settings, edit the club name, or add/remove members. Admins can choose which trusted club members to designate as Leaders. When people visit your profile, they’ll see the clubs in which you’re an Admin, Leader, or Member. We’re committed to making this a smooth transition for all of the club Admins out there, so we put together an FAQ to answer your questions and help you get migrated!🟢 See who’s online — and start a room with them — directly from the Backchannel. Now you can see a green dot when people you’re chatting with are online, and a new button you can tap to start an audio room with them, without leaving your message threads. This feature is available in both 1:1 and group chats.📥 Archive messages. This has been one of our most requested features ever since we launched the Backchannel. From your inbox, just swipe left on any message to archive it! This works in both your main Chats tabs and your Requests tab. You can access your archived messages anytime by tapping the “…” at the top of the full-screen inbox view 🔔 Fewer, better notifications. We rolled out some improvements that will result in us sending you 18% fewer notifications, without impacting room visits for creators. This mean 44% fewer notifications than a month ago, with more improvements to come. :)That’s all for this week. As always, thank you for being part of Clubhouse! 🙏🏽
