Hospitality Jobs Could Go Unless The Industry Is Helped More…

Hotel, cafe and dining chains will fail and jobs will go if the government does not do more to help the industry, a trade group has warned the chancellor. In a letter to Rishi Sunak, lobby group UK Hospitality said coronavirus was an “existential threat” to the sector.  It wants to change laws to allow temporary staff redundancies. Staff to go at British Airways due to Coronavirus

British Airways is to ground flights ‘like never before’ and lay off staff in response to the coronavirus. In a memo to staff titled “The Survival of British Airways”, boss Alex Cruz warned that job cuts could be “short term, perhaps long term”. The airline industry was facing a “crisis of global proportions” that was worse than that caused by the SARS virus or 9/11.  Meanwhile, Ryanair told staff they may be forced to take leave from Monday. The Bank of England is considering the introduction of electronic banknotes for use by consumers and businesses. Governor Mark Carney said: “We are in the middle of a revolution in payments,” saying the Bank must look into how electronic money could work. Welsh Business on the up…

Welsh firms reported higher output last month as business activity rose at its fastest rate for a year, according to new figures. According to the latest NatWest Wales PMI data, private sector firms registered a faster expansion in output during February. That said, new business grew at only a marginal rate as client demand softened midway through the first quarter. A sharper upturn in activity led firms to raise their payroll numbers at the quickest pace since December 2018, as the reduction in backlogs of work remained strong. SME Property Boom ‘on the Way’ as Firms Look to Expand – Business News Wales

Welsh Unemployment at Record Low of 2.9% 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿💼📰

New figures show jobs market ‘in fine form’ as unemployment drops in Wales Unemployment in Wales has fallen to a record low of 2.9% in October to December, compared with 3.8% for the UK. During this period there were 45,000 people looking for work, 14,000 fewer than the previous three months. Responding to the latest official labour market statistics, Robert Lloyd Griffiths, Director of IoD Wales, said: “The UK jobs market ended last year in fine form with employment up by 0.5% to 74.4% in Wales with unemployment down to 2.9% , but 2020 may be more challenging for employers.
