Update on the Fish Export Service

The Fish Export Service was taken offline on 21 January 2020 as it is not required during the implementation period, which started when the UK left the European Union (EU) on 31 January, and ends on 31 December 2020.

The service was originally developed to produce Catch Certificates, Processing Statements and Storage Documents to enable export of fishery products to the EU in the event of a no deal exit.

However, while the future partnership with the EU is negotiated, trading arrangements with the EU during the implementation period will continue as they were prior to exit.

During the Implementation period a Catch Certificate or other associated export documents are not required unless fish are exported to a non-EU country (for example, for processing) which are then exported back into the EU, or fish caught by a UK-flagged vessel are exported to:

Iceland Ivory Coast Kuwait Madagascar Norway Thailand Tunisia Ukraine

This is a continuation of current requirements.

Further updates on the Fish Export Service will be issued later in the year to provide information to prepare businesses to trade with the EU from 1 January 2021.

In the meantime, if you are interested in helping to continue to develop and test the service, please contact MarineEvidenceandTech@gov.wales
